Irrigation System Design Approaches to Minimize Surge Pressure

This basic hydraulics course will teach pipe sizing using the velocity limit technique. This sets the speed limit of water in PVC pipes at 5 feet per second. This serves a majority of irrigation system designs very well. But there are many common situations where a 5 fps velocity limit is too high and can accellerate piping system failuers and other hydraulic problems. One installation method that contractors are turning to is vacuum excavation. As a low impact and flexible option, vacuum excavators are becoming increasingly popular in urban job sites. When pairing vacuum excavation with traditional installation methods like trenching and excavating, contractors can take on more jobs and increase profitability. Vacuum excavation and traditional installation methods complement each other and should be mutually beneficial.
