Design/Field Irrigation Hydraulics Package

Some subjects work well when taught together. Save 10% off the list price when you purchase this package that contains the following three items:
Basic Irrigation Hydraulics - Introduce students to basic hydraulic principles and how they are applied in irrigation systems. This workbook addresses how pressure is created, the difference between static and dynamic pressure and flow, as well as an introduction to friction loss in piping, fittings and other irrigation system components.
Irrigation Pipe Sizing - Learn how to properly size pipe for more economical irrigation systems that perform correctly. This workbook covers applying the friction factor and velocity methods, as well as when to use each method. Practice problems help students develop skills, including using friction loss charts.
Design Capacity & Available Pressure - Evaluate various water sources for irrigation system designs. This workbook teaches students to determine the maximum safe flow, and calculate water and pressure requirements to meet the irrigation demands of the landscape.

Irrigation System Design Approaches to Minimize Surge Pressure

This basic hydraulics course will teach pipe sizing using the velocity limit technique. This sets the speed limit of water in PVC pipes at 5 feet per second. This serves a majority of irrigation system designs very well. But there are many common situations where a 5 fps velocity limit is too high and can accellerate piping system failuers and other hydraulic problems. This discussion takes the irrigation designer through the cause and effect of the velocity of the water in the pipe and valve sizing in terms of the cyclical forces that affect the operational costs and sprinkler performance. Methods and Materials for Restraining Pipes and Fittings

This webinar discusses the various options available for restraining irrigation pipe and their associated fittings, both above and below ground. Topics include thrust blocking and joint restraint as well as when restraint is required and when it is not. The various types of pipe and how their restraining requirements are different will be discussed. Details will be shown to illustrate how the types of restraint should be installed and calculations for proper sizing of the restraints. We will also discuss why restraint is needed and the consequences of improperly or not restraining the pipe and fitting system. This webinar is worth one CEU in the Tier 1 - irrigation training category.

Pressure Regulation & Check Valves for Landscape Irrigation

This webinar discusses how pressure regulation and check valves help conserve water resources. Pressure regulation can be achieved in several different ways: at the point of connection, at the valve or at the sprinkler head. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. Check valves help prevent low-head drainage that empties lateral pipes unnecessarily and likewise can conserve water used in the landscape.
